Onychomycosis is a contagious dermatological infection that occurs in both men and women, where the nails of either the hands or feet are affected by fungi.<\/p>\n

Onychomycosis can cause difficulties in daily life such as: pain, irritated skin and, in an aggravated stage, even nail detachment, symptoms that make walking, sports and manual work problematic.<\/p>\n

Onychomycosis is caused by three categories of organisms:<\/p>\n

  1. Dermatophytes (fungi that feed on nail tissue and that infect hair, skin, and nails)<\/li>\n
  2. Non-dermatophyte bacteria<\/li>\n
  3. Candidiasis (Candida Albicans)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    • Arterial\/venous disorders<\/li>\n
    • Common injuries<\/li>\n

    • Long nail length (favors the colonization of fungi and bacteria in the space under the nail)<\/li>\n
    • Excessive sweating<\/li>\n
    • Skin Fungi, Foot and Toe Deformity<\/li>\n
    • Lack of vitamins A, B1, B2<\/li>\n

      If onychomycosis is diagnosed at an early stage, treatment can be done topically, with antifungal ointments.
