Mole Removal by LP-CLINIC

Moles on the skin are scientifically called nevi. Because they are formed by melanocytes (the cells that create the skin pigment, melanin), they are also called “melanocytic nevi.”

There are, of course, moles that are formed from other skin cells. Such are the vascular moles that are created by blood vessels. However, it must be understood that only melanocytic moles are identical to our familiar moles. These moles can be present from the birth of a person, but mainly appear in adolescence and childhood. They can be flat or raised, have various sizes, shapes, and forms. When moles protrude from the skin, they can be injured by clothing or a clothing accessory, such as a belt, and create a wound. Mole removal in such a case is necessary to prevent inflammation.

Treatment

If you notice a change in the size, shape, or color of an existing mole or the presence of a new mole with atypical characteristics, or symptoms such as itching or bleeding, you should consult a dermatologist.
A useful mnemonic, “ABCDE,” can help you remember what to look out for:

  • ASYMMETRY: The asymmetry of the shape of the lesion. If we divide the lesion with a line down the middle, the two halves are not the same.
  • BORDER – THE PERIMETER OF THE DAMAGE: The boundaries of the lesion are irregular.
  • COLOR: Presence of many colors.
  • DIAMETER: Change in the size of the lesion.
  • EVOLUTION: change in the size, shape or color of the mole
